A twenty-three (23) year old teacher has been charged with murder and was scheduled to make his first court appearance at the St. George’s Magistrate court on Monday.
John Redhead, of the parish of St. David was formally arrested and charged on the weekend with murder, in the death of 19-year old Akera Lalgie.
Lalgie’s dismembered body was discovered in a rash can on the morning of Thursday 26th July 2012.
Police investigations have led to the murder scene in Simon’s Alley, a secluded area within the town of St. George’s.
During a search of the area an offensive weapon including personal belongings of the victim were recovered.
An autopsy performed on Saturday 28th July 2012 revealed Lalgie died as a result of hypovolemic shock or excessive bleeding. The report also stated that the teenager was partially strangled.
Police say their investigations are continuing as they are yet to find Lalgie’s missing body parts which include her head, arms and legs.©
News Agency Al Jazeera has quoted Nigerian police as saying that members of Boko Haram, an Islamist armed group from Nigeria, have stormed a prison in Yobe state in the country’s northeast, freeing 40 inmates.
