Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has denied a claim from opposition leader Dr.Keith Mitchell that a senior minister in his government has received US 150,000 dollars wired into his account from Saudi Arabia.
Prime Minister Thomas told a local television station Monday night that he did not receive any money from Saudi Arabia and is not aware that any of his ministers have.
The Grenadian leader was reacting to claims from New National Party (NNP) leader Dr. Keith Mitchell suggesting that the alleged transaction was not above board and that the Prime Minister knows who the recipient is.
“Well I have not received any money from Saudi Arabia myself. I am not aware of any money being received from Saudi Arabia .I believe it is mischief” Prime Minister Thomas said.
“The NNP has been tainted with wrong doing and they want to bring all politicians within that category. I think that is what they are trying to do they are trying to confuse the Grenadian people to make it appear that all of us as politicians are involved in wrong doing. But I don’t think that would succeed”.
Dr. Mitchell has not named the local recipient of the money but alleges that cheque for EC $100,000 of the money was paid to “a close political friend’’ of the NDC.
But Prime Minister Thomas has dismissed the claim as mischief.
“If NNP has information and they feel something needs to be investigated they could go and make a report to the FIU and the FIU could conduct an investigation” Prime Minister Thomas said.
