Barbados Police investigate double homicide

Police in Barbados are investigating a double homicide following the shooting deaths of 52 year old Betty Mayers and her 32 year old son Jamal Mayers at their St. Phillip home on Sunday night. .

Police Public Relations Officer Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss told local reporters that they responded to a report of two masked men around the Mayers residence at about 8:00pm on Sunday night but by the time they arrived on the scene, they discovered the bodies of the mother and son.

The police say they have no motive yet for the killing and is appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

“Anything that you have heard, anything that you know, however small we are appealing to people to let us know what is going on,” Innis said.

 “We are still at the stage carrying out intensive and sensitive investigations and we are appealing to residents who might have seen something or heard something to kindly let us know,” Innis added.

Sunday night’s double homicide brings the number to 18 in less than three months. Between January and April 2018 there were approximately 8 murders while there were 5 for the corresponding period in 2017.
