Government again faces challenges to paying public servants

There are reports that the Grenada government is still grappling with a massive budgetary deficit which could spell another late payment of public servant salaries for a consecutive two month.

A number of government workers were paid over one week late at the ending of June due to severe cash flow problems.

Government sources say official from the Ministry of  Finance have been called before cabinet to make presentations on how the challenge could be tackled in the short-term.

The Tillman Thomas administration is said to be looking for 80 million EC dollars immediately to pay its most urgent bills, including another round of salary due in just over a week.

The latest news of government’s financial headaches come on a day there were reports in St George’s that a top ruling party official tipped to become a ruling party candidate next year has been hired by the Ministry of Finance for  a six figure salary higher than even most ministers.©

  1. Randal Robinson

Ms. Best, this is Randal Robinson. I have been hearing in some circles (especially someone referring to his/herself as “Ndc Vs Nnp” on facebook) that I am the person to whom you refer (a top ruling party official tipped to become a ruling party candidate). I have no knowledge of this and I wish that if you have more information about the identity of person to be appointed that you make it clear that it is not Randal Robinson. Thanking you in advance for clarity in this matter. Best regards.
