The Media Workers Association of Grenada (MWAG) has announced the staging of a workshop on labour rights.
MWAG says the workshop is targeted at media workers on the island and scheduled for Wednesday June 13th from 9am to 12 noon at the Ministry of Works Conference Room.
The labour rights workshop forms part of activities celebrating media week 2012 which is being held from June 10 to 17 this year under the theme “Media in a Challenging World“.
MWAG says it feels a workshop covering labour rights for media workers will be informative and is encouraging members to make an effort to attend.
In the last year and a half about 15 media workers in Grenada have lost their jobs for varying reasons.
Several of them have filed complaints through the Ministry of Labour seeking compensation under the Labour Code.
In Grenada the earnings of many media workers are significantly lower than the set minimum wage.
The workshop on labour rights is on Wednesday June 13th from 9 am at works conference room and is being held in association with the labour department.©
