Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Dr. Ralph Gonzalves on Thursday hosted a meeting of OECS Tourism and Civil Aviation Ministers to identify priority areas for joint action including the development of a Common OECS Air Transport Policy.
The meeting was in response to a decision taken at the OECS Council of Tourism Ministers at its 10th Meeting; and subsequently endorsed by the OECS Authority in May last year.
Thursday’s meeting, the outcome yet unknown, sought to look at ways in which OECS destinations can be made more attractive and accessible to potential tourists.
It also had to look the feasibility of setting up studies to assess the air service needs of the region, and to guide OECS Member States’ efforts at attracting and sustaining airlift.
The implementation of certain aspects of the San Juan Accord, which speaks to the issue of restructuring the region’s air transport sector, was also down for discussion.
The objective of the restructuring is to offering safe, secure and sustainable air services in the Caribbean.©
